Volume 17 Issue 7

July 2008

Youth Conference

Jason and three of his homeschooled teen friends helped put on a youth conference on June 7th.  It was great fun! But the weather sucked! It was damp and cold all day, but the teens toughed it out and had a blast.  See for yourself!

Eagle Project

Jason is on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout.  His project is to make wood block kits for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's humanitarian services.  It took him a few months to decided what he wanted to do, but when he did he went all out and did a fantastic job.

He had his dad cut all the wood blocks out and then had the teens at the Youth Conference help sand them.  It took a couple more nights with his scout troop to finish all the sanding, but by then end of June all the blocks were sanded and oiled and ready for boxing up and shipping to Salt Lake City.

Dissection!

YUCK and GROSS! Doreen hated this when she was in high school and she still does.  To end their study of Biology the Blanding family dissected a worm, Cray fish, perch and a frog.  Doreen could handle the worm and most of the Cray fish, but she lost it (literally) on the fish and wouldn't even look during the frog.  She sat with the laptop screen as her shield as the kids did the work.  We will let the pictures tell the story. Thanks to the kids you can see these pictures, even that was too much for Doreen's stomach.

Chris and Jason explore an earthworm while Kray and Jessie try to cut one open.

Kray trying out flog legs while Matt and Mike try there hand at surgery.

All the names and faces are real.  All the facts are real unless we embellished them to make ourselves look good.  Just the adjectives and adverbs are made up.  If anything resembles sanity......that was made up, too.
