Biographical InformationLori Scovill is an expert in Child Development, Parenting, and Research Design. She holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Houston and has taught courses in Child Development, Adolescence, Cognition, Statistics, and Child Abuse. She has won numerous student-nominated teaching awards at the University of Houston. Lori also speaks regularly by invitation in the greater Houston area on topics relating to parenting and child development. Lori Scovill received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Houston in 1999. She has been teaching courses in Developmental Psychology at the University of Houston since 1992. Prior to completing her education, she was a teaching parent for The National Teaching Family Association. She spent more than 12 years as a teaching parent, working and living in group homes for adolescents with problems. Lori worked with teens ranging in age from 8-20. She also worked as a Consultant, Evaluator, and as Director of Training for Teaching Family programs. Lori has been the lucky wife of Terry Scovill for 29 years, and is the mother of two grown daughters, a teenage son, two sons-in-law, and has two granddaughters and one grandson. Lori has been homeschooling her son, Nathan, for over five years. Lori taught Seminary for 5 years and considers that the best teaching experience of her career. She tries hard to model the principles she learned from teaching seminary as she homeschools her son--that is, focus on the spirit and teach correct principles. Meeting the Needs of Our Homeschooled TeensWhile the teen years present new and exciting challenges for teens and parents, this special developmental period also provides opportunities for family and individual growth like never before! As we come to enjoy these special years, we can seek the opportunity to help our teens strive for more than they thought possible! Our youth have the ability; it is our job as teachers and parents to help them discover the greatness within them! Come learn about the unique needs of adolescents and pick up a few principles and tips for improving your relationships with your teens and some ideas for helping them achieve their goals!
