Biographical Information

Esther Swartz is the mother of five wonderful children between the ages of 2 and 14 and wife of 16 years to an avid sailor and ham radio hobbiest David Swartz. She is daughter to a mother who loves creating and teaching art to grandkids, teens, peers and elders and to a mother-in-law who loves visiting museums and appreciating great art with her grandchildren.  She was introduced to homeschooling 7 years ago and began the journey when her oldest was asking to be taught at home near the end of first grade.   She has an AA Degree in Early Childhood Education.

She has a passion for learning anything and everything but especially enjoys art, music and singing, gardening, reading and life in the great outdoors with her family.   She is a grass roots member of the FHE Academy Co-op in Tacoma, WA. She has taught classes on phonetics, Dr. Suess, PE and several art classes on the basic elements of shape using the book "Drawing with Children", by Mona Brookes and "Discovering Great Artists", by MaryAnn Kohl.  This is the first year she has taught art exclusively covering 4 classes in three sessions.

Hands On Art Part 101 and 102.

What are the basic elements of shape found in everything around you? Is there a right way and a wrong way to draw?  How do you respond to, "Do you like it mommy"?  Are the primary colors really red, yellow and blue or is that just a myth?  Where do you buy art supplies?  What is Art Appreciation?  What is a Nature Notebook?  Who are the Master Artists in History?  Visiting an Art Museum and more! Come and enjoy a fun and relaxed approach to learning and teaching art.

 Art for the High Schooler

Covering the basics in a nutshell (as described above).   How to get your teen to open up and express themselves.  What gifts do they possess?  What are some vocabulary words that will help or hinder this process?  Visit with some of the masters and learn a little about their lives.  How about a trip to your local art museum?  Then give them some art supplies and set them free!
