RevengeRubik's Revenge is the name normally given the 4x4x4 variant of the Rubik's Cube. One would think, since there are only four layers, that the 4x4x4 cube would be easier to solve than the 5x5x5 cube. One would be wrong. Since the 4x4x4 cube has no center layer, there are certain (rather nasty) configurations that the 4x4x4 cube can be put in that are impossible on a 3x3x3 or a 5x5x5 cube. For instance, on a normal 3x3x3 cube it isn't possible to swap only two centers. On a 4x4x4 cube it is. On a 3x3x3 cube it isn't possible to swap only two edges. On a 4x4x4 cube it is. Also, without a center layer, the only thing you have to guide you as to which color belongs on which side is the pieces themselves. As with the 5x5x5 cube (usually called the Professor's Cube), the key to solving the 4x4x4 cube is to put the cube first into a position that resembles a 3x3x3 cube. But you'll have to figure out where the centers go and you'll have to deal with the impossible situations I mentioned above. Once again I'll warn you, if you want the satisfaction of solving the Rubik's Revenge on your own, you should skip the next page. |
