WALDSFE Home

by Paul Stone

The scriptures teach us that the man is the head of the home (Ephesians 5:23 or there abouts).  This does not mean that he is the boss, this means that HE IS ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD FOR WHAT GOES ON IN HIS HOME.  It is true that a good wife can make a home heaven on earth.  A lousy husband can make it HELL on earth, in spite of anything the wife may do.

Christ also said "Let he that is the greatest among you be the servant of all".  Any man who thinks that just because he is the head of the home, his wife and children should wait on him is in great error.  He should serve them.

The rolls are different.  Most women are closer to the Lord than men.  Everyman should listen to his wife, she is his first counselor and a good part of his conscience.

My good wife knows how to manipulate me into thinking I want what she wants without me even realizing it until it is over.

If you want your husband to move closer to the Lord, do the following:

1.  Ask him to set a time to read the scriptures as a family.

2.  Ask your home teacher (in private ahead of time) to ask your family if they are reading the scriptures, if necessary.

3.  Ask him to call and remind your family to read (if necessary).

4.  Get your husband to exercise his priesthood, give blessings, etc.

5.  Get him to take the lead spiritually.  Ask the Lord to help you do this.

6.  Plan your Family Home Evenings, for the entire month, on fast Sunday, so you know where you are going.

7.  Hold Family Home Evening, and let him teach.

8.  If you feel strongly about something, read the scriptures and pray where he can see you, and when you receive an answer, bear your testimony to him and ask him to pray about it.  (Why not let him know that the disagreement is not between the two of you, but between him and the Lord).

Recently I was out with the full time missionaries (I am a Ward Missionary).  We stopped by a members home.  He had a severe infection in his hand and was in danger of having his hand amputated.  His home teachers were there to give him a blessing.  These are good men, both were in the Elders Quorum Presidency.

They started to give this brother a blessing.  The spirit was not present.  As they began to walk over to give him the blessing I said "We are not going to do this this way.  This kind cometh not out but with fasting and prayer."  The brethren sat down, we had a prayer, and I shared some spiritual experiences with them and bore my testimony until the spirit had set the room on fire.  At this point, the same two brethren stepped up and gave the blessing.  I did not give it, but was in the circle.  It should come as no surprise that the infection was gone and the doctor took the antibiotic pump that this brother had worn for over two months.  He had shown zero progress in fighting this infection previous to this.  My family had fasted and prayed for this man the week before.

What every you do, do it with the spirit.  The scriptures say "If ye receive not the spirit ye shall not teach."  I say "If ye receive not the spirit ye shall not give blessings."  The spirit is the most important thing in these matters.
