For a student at Helaman's Academy to earn the two credits needed in Occupational Education the student must pass these skills tests during their junior and senior year:These skills were chosen because it is our belief that every child should leave their parents home with these basic skills in order to survive in the world of today and tomorrow regardless of their choice of career or profession. There is some wiggle room inside of the skills lists, but only after much prayer, thought and discussion are the requirements changed. As these skills are not conducive to a sit down class room, real life experience will be counted, but mastery (or as the Cub Scouts say) "doing your best" is required for graduation.
A credit at Helaman's Academy is either a content based credit or a time based credit. A "content" based credit is mastering certain skills or completing a text book (like a math book). A "time" based credit is spending time at that skill like practicing a musical instrument or playing on a sports team for a certain amount of time; roughly about 120 hours.
